Dublin's iconic Spire and London's Nelson's Column are turned into giant lightsabers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens

AS the hype around the new Star Wars movie builds, some of Ireland and Britain's most famous city structures have been transformed into giant lightsabers.

Dublin city's Spire (120m high and 3m diameter at the base) on O'Connell Street was lit up in blue to promote Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which premiered last night.

Several Dubliners caught the moment on camera and shared their pictures on social media.

Meanwhile in London, the historic Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square was illuminated in blue from within.

Disney, the studio behind the movies, spent £24,000 on the London publicity stunt alone.
