AN EDENDERRY priest has revealed he will perform an original psalm as part of a huge choir set to perform for Pope Francis during his visit to Ireland later this month.
Father Liam Lawton confirmed his involvement in the Papal Mass performance in Dublin's Phoenix Park on August 26th via a Facebook post.
"So today I joined with thousands of people from all over Ireland who will form the Choir for the Papal Mass," he wrote.
"I am greatly privileged to have composed the Psalm setting that will be used - 'The Lord hears the Cry of the Poor' which is very much in keeping with the theology of Pope Francis."
Father Lawton posted a video snippet of the choir, made up of people from all over Ireland, practicing ahead of the huge event later this month.
A priest of the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin, Father Lawton's songs have proven popular with choirs all over the world.
Over the course of a two-decade career, his work has been translated into a variety of languages and has been recorded by artists from all over the globe.
This represents arguably his biggest event yet with a congregation of some 500,000 set to descend on Phoenix Park for a choir performance geared towards congregational singing.
