A SECOND hand Irish bookshop want to reunite a family with a baby tag found inside a book from 40 years ago.
Staff at New Ross Books in Wexford found the tag tucked away in a book in their storeroom recently.
The tag was used to document the birth of a baby girl of a family with the surname O’Brien in 1977.
In a post on Facebook, staff at the bookshop asked for help in identifying the recipient of the tag – who would have celebrated their 40th birthday on March 24 this year.
“You find all sorts in books, letters, appointments, religious relics, declarations of love of the "Mary Loves John 4eva" variety and then you find things that really should be returned to the owner,” they said.
“This fell out of a book in the storeroom, it's the tag they used to put on newborn babies in hospitals back in the day. It obviously was used as a bookmark and then misplaced.
“We reckon the owner would love to get it back, be it the mother, father or baby O'Brien herself.”
Staff explained that the child was born weighing 8 lb 2 ounces on March 24, 1977 at 6.35pm.
“Her surname is O'Brien, the best clue we have is her 40th birthday was on the 24th of March last,” they added.
“We are aware its possible Baby O'Brien has passed away over the years but even if that's the case this may bring a smile of memory to a loved one’s face.
We know it's a long shot especially as we have picked up books all over the country over the last few years but with the help of the internet anything is possible.”
