A TWITTER squabble broke out between Aer Lingus and Norwegian Air over Ireland-US routes...and Aer Lingus just about edged it.
Aer Lingus are quite often caught up in social media jousts, often with Ryanair, but this time it was the Norwegian carrier in the Irish airline’s sights — over the Scandinavian’s carrier’s newly-launched routes from Dublin, Cork and Shannon to New York for as low as €69.
They announced this on Twitter with the message “€69 — That’s grand!”
Aer Lingus were quick to respond with the message:
Other Tweeters were ready to enter the fray.
Mike O’Connor, obviously a Cork man who expressed the view that the Norwegian Air deal might be worthwhile, tweeted: “But it cuts out the 3 hour journey from Cork to Dublin!”
To which Aer Lingus replied: “Maybe, but have you seen where you land?”
They appended a screen grab from Google Maps with the results of their query about a route from the destination airport of Stewart International to Times Square by train.
The Google Map message was the damning: "Can't find a way there."
Aer Lingus tweeted: "About those routes..."
Meanwhile a Mr Jeroen Hoogeveen sounded equally unimpressed with the Norwegian carrier, saying: “Do you have to pay for toilet use on board?” The answer to that is, no.
Norwegian Air appeared to have the last, although not particularly convincing word, saying:
“Free advertising from @AerLingus for Norwegian’s low-cost flights? That’s grand, thanks guys!”
