IRELAND has become a hugely popular destination for weddings and honeymoons, and it seems the stars are equally as enchanted by its charms. Here, we remember 10 celebrity Irish weddings.
Amy Huberman and Brian O’Driscoll
The Irish rugby legend Brian O’Driscoll wed actress and author Amy Huberman in the Lough Rynn Castle in Co. Leitrim back in 2010. Probably as close Ireland has come to its own version of a royal wedding this century.
Gabriel Byrne and Hannah Beth King
Actor Gabriel Byrne married his long-term girlfriend Hannah Beth King at Ballymaloe Country House Hotel in Co. Cork in 2014. Ballymaloe has a world famous cookery school, so the food, from nibbles to right through to supper, were undoubtedly top notch.
Paul McCartney and Heather Mills
The former Beatle married his second wife Heather Mills in 2002, holding the ceremony in Castle Leslie in the village of Glaslough, Co. Monaghan. Some of McCartney’s relatives still lived in the locality; the wedding was so Irish that cousins, in-laws and friends were soon bickering about who should, and who shouldn't, be invited.
Victoria and David Beckham
David Beckham and Posh Spice's 1999 wedding took place in the 18th century gothic Luttrellstown Castle located just outside Dublin. Even back then David, surrounded by all that mediaeval armour, was dreaming of becoming a knight.
Bijou Phillips and Danny Masterson
American actress Bijou Phillips married That ‘70s Show actor Danny Masterson in 2011 in a private castle in Co. Tipperary. The couple met, very romantically, at a poker tournament in Las Vegas. Texas Hold 'em evidently had them holding hands, and it was a short step after that to Tipperary. Both Scientologists, the couple had a Scientology marriage ceremony, possibly the first of its kind ever to have been held in an Irish castle.
Pierce Brosnan
Navan man and former 007 actor Pierce Brosnan married the TV host Keely Shaye Smith at Ballintubber Abbey in Co. Mayo in 2001. The reception was held in 13th-century Ashford Castle, Co. Mayo — cocktails, presumably, were shaken not stirred.
Tony Hawk and Kathy Goodman
The US skateboarding legend married his partner Kathy in Limerick’s Adare Manor the former seat of the Earl of Dunraven, 2015.
Bono and Ali Hewson
Married in 1982 at All Saints Church, Raheny, Dublin, Bono and Ali had known each other since their early teens.
Joe Elliott and Kristine E. Wunschel
Having lived in Ireland for almost 30 years, Def Leppard frontman Elliott married his second wife Kristine at Kinnitty Castle, the Gothic pile which overlooks the Slievebloom Mountains in Co. Offaly.
Rosanna Davison and Wesley Quirke
Former Miss World (and daughter of Chris de Burgh) Rosanna Davison married Wesley Quirke in a civil ceremony in May 2014. This was followed by two receptions, the first in Ibiza, the second in Powerscourt Resort Hotel in Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow.
