Irish Olympic rowing brothers Gary and Paul O'Donovan were asked about their strategy for the final, and their answer was classic Cork

CORK brothers Gary and Paul O'Donovan secured their place in the lightweight men's double sculls final at the Olympic Games in Rio yesterday, denying Great Britain a place in the finals.

The Irish brothers finished third in a time of 6:35.70, giving us a nail biting finish or a "cracker of a race" as they called it.

The French crew came in fist, followed by the United States.

In an interview with RTÉ Sport, the West Cork duo said it was a nice touch to "beat the Brits too."

Yet the brothers seem totally unfazed by their impressive Olympics so far, telling the interviewer they weren't sure what time the final was on at.

The O'Donovan brothers now join women's scullers Claire Lambe and Sinead Lynch, who also came third in their semi-final

Both pairs will compete for an Olympic medal today. The rowing begins at 12:30.
