Harrods to sell sweet treats from Irish biscuit makers The Lismore Food Company

AN IRISH food company has been signed up to line the shelves of one of Britain’s most recognisable department stores.

The Lismore Food Company has launched four of its sweet biscuit flavours in the food halls of Harrods.

The Co. Waterford-based firm is led by Beth-Ann Smith and brothers Owen and Ken Madden.

“Harrods is one of the most beautiful department stores in the world and its exquisite Food Hall is home to only the very finest produce,” Ken said. “It’s a very exciting advance in our young company’s development and offers us exposure to customers from across the world who we hope will delight at our delicious biscuits.”

Beth-Ann Smith’s family history in food stretches back to Smith’s Stores, a fine food delicatessen and bakery on Cork’s Patrick Street.

Having trained at Ballymaloe Cookery School she is now head chef at Lismore Castle.

Brothers Owen and Ken Madden’s family opened a bakery and public house on Lismore’s Main Street in the early 1800’s.

Now called The Summerhouse and home to The Lismore Food Company, they continue this culinary tradition in the same location.

Among the flavours gracing the Harrod’s aisles are Lismore’s All Butter Irish Shortbread, which have been stocked in British Marks & Spencer stores since last October, Lemon Polenta, Dark Chocolate and Cardamom as well as Hazelnut, Cinnamon and Raisin biscuits.

“Being on the shelves at Harrods is another fabulous endorsement of our fine biscuits,” Beth-Ann Smith added.

“People love the flavour combinations, enhanced by our key ingredient which is pure Irish butter. This combined with our striking design has captured biscuit lovers everywhere.”
