BIRMINGHAM’S New Alexandra Theatre got into the full Rhythm of the Dance experience when the long-running show swayed into town last month.
Now in its 15th year, the show featured 19 dancers, three Irish tenors and five musicians playing a range of traditional Irish instruments. There were penny whistles blowing, fiddlers lashing out jigs and reels and guitarists and accordion players filling in in between it all.
Mixing traditional old style Irish dance, familiar music and blistering set pieces, the show gives an interpretation of Irish history with the amplified stage floor that really brings you into the rhythm of the dance.
More than four million people have seen the show, which continues its world tour with shows in Stoke-on-Trent, Hull, Blackpool and St Albans on its schedule.
