LONDON IRISH fans were smiling at the weekend as their team won a closely fought victory over fellow Aviva Premiership strugglers Newcastle Falcons at the Madejski Stadium in Reading.
Sitting at the foot of the table before kick-off, London Irish were desperate for a victory that would leapfrog them over their opponents. Defeat would have left them adrift at the bottom of the table.
A Shane Geraghty-inspired burst at the start of the second half let to tries from Alex Lewington and Topsy Ojo which put the Exiles 20-0 ahead. Despite a fight back from Newcastle, the home side hung on for a crucial victory, much to the delight of their loyal supporters.
