BIRMINGHAM enjoyed its biggest St Patrick’s Day parade to date as more than 80,000 revellers came out to enjoy the festival on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
Led by Lord Mayor of Birmingham Michael Leddy and St Patrick himself – who both waved to crowds from a red double-decker bus - the parade meandered through the city streets, boasting trucks, tractors and floats of all shapes and sizes.
Local BBC radio favourite Bob Brolly was on hand throughout the day to cover the action and told The Irish Post: “It’s been a great day and it’s fantastic to have the weather for a change.”
The weekend’s high temperatures drew a full house for the annual gathering – claimed by many to be the third largest St Patrick’s Day parade in the world - which takes place in the heart of the city’s Irish community in Digbeth and boasted a ‘myths and legends’-theme for 2014.
