Mind Yourself and icap join forces to celebrate World Mental Health Day

MIND Yourself and icap joined forces with the Irish Forum for Counselling and Psychotherapy to celebrate this year’s World Mental Health Day, which fell on October 10.

An important annual event in the mental health calendar, it is a day for global education about mental health and this year has a specific focus on schizophrenia.

The joint event was hosted by Ambassador Dan Mulhall at the Irish Embassy and focused on raising awareness about mental health in the Irish community in Britain.

Among the attendees was Professor Liam Delaney from the University of Stirling who spoke about about the impact of childhood adversity prior to emigration on health outcomes for Irish people.

icap CEO Catherine Henness said: “We were delighted to be involved in this event to highlight the importance of mental health to overall wellbeing. Negative attitudes about mental health can be detrimental to people who experience mental health problems. It’s important that we all challenge the stigma that can be associated with mental distress.”

Mind Yourself has this week been announced as one of the charity partners for this year’s Irish Post Awards and Gala Business Dinner, which take place on October 23.
