SCENES from Dublin City back in 1961 were captured in colour by American photographer Charles W. Cushman.
The rare colour photographs, restored and released by Indiana University, show a series of Dublin streets and landmarks that still stand today.
The photographer, Charles W. Cushman, was born in 1896 in Indiana and while he was attending IU to study law in 1914, he became interested in journalism.
In his later years, he was the editor of many financial publications but would also enjoy showing his photography slides to guests at his home.

Very little is known about Cushman after the 1940s except he travelled extensively and visited many different countries.
His total photo archive with Indiana University amounts to over 14,000 images.
The images from Dublin 1961 show Trinity College, O'Connell Street, College Green, fields near Dublin Airport, horses and carts in the city amongst others.
Also in the collection are photographs of the Four Courts, the Bank of Ireland in College Green and the old green double decker buses.
