ENGLAND'S VICTORY over Germany in the European Championship final will have a knock-on effect for the women's game in Ireland.
The maiden victory for the English has been heralded as a watershed moment for the women's game in England, and many believe that the women's game will go from strength from here.
A record attendance of 87,192 people saw England beat Germany 2-1 thanks to goals from Ella Toone and Chloe Kelly. Kelly scored late on to ensure it was a momentous day for England and women's football.
Lisa Fallon working as pundit for RTE Sport yesterday believes that England's win yesterday will have a similar effect as the men's solo World Cup win in 1966 did.
“They have waited such a long, long time for it come home, and they’ve finally brought it home,” Fallon explained.

“That 1966 victory is sat like a black and white photo for English football and what that looked like.
“They finally brought it to life in full colour. I’m so happy for so many of those players, and what it means.
“I know what so many of those players have gone through to get to that point today. They have shown so much resilience, physicality and they showed cynicism today.
Fallon also believes that women's game in Ireland will see a positive effect from the extra coverage and exposure from England's win
“There was creativity, and they just showed everything required by a great team to win a tournament against a great team. I think it’s momentous not just for women’s football in England, but I think there is going to be a big knock-on effect here.
“It shows that the investment that was put in in the game in England has transferred into success, real life success. I’m genuinely really happy for them.”
Ireland are on the verge of reaching their first major tournament in Australia and New Zealand and will take on Finland and Slovakia in September to try and ensure they reach the play-offs
