Traditional Irish toasts to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with

ST PATRICK’S Day has always been a special date in the calendar.

March 17th might be reserved for Ireland’s patron saint but with some 70 million people of Irish heritage spread across the world, it’s something of a global phenomenon.

People wear green, enjoy traditional Irish food and maybe have a drink or two.

It’s a chance for people far and wide to come together in celebration and raise a glass to get the party started. Ireland is famous for its traditional toasts, usually accompanied by a hearty "Sláinte!" which means "health" in place of "cheers.

To Love…

I have known many, and liked not a few,

but loved only one, and this toast is to you.

To Luck…

May you have all the happiness

and luck that life can hold—

And at the end of all your rainbows

may you find a pot of gold.

To Friendship…

My friends are the best friends

Loyal, willing and able.

Now let’s get to drinking!

All glasses off the table!

To Ireland…

Here’s to the land of the shamrock so green.

Here’s to each lad and his darlin’ Colleen.

Here’s to the ones we love dearest and most.

May God bless old Ireland, that’s this Irishman’s toast!

To Happiness…

May your troubles be less, and your blessings be more.

And nothing but happiness come through your door.

To Life…

May we be alive at this same time again next year.

To Parties…

May the winds of fortune sail you,

May you sail a gentle sea.

May it always be the other guy

who says, 'this drink's on me.'

To Abundance…

May your glass be ever full.

May the roof over your head be always strong.

And may you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.

To Money…

May your heart be light and happy,

may your smile be big and wide.

And may your pockets always have

a coin or two inside.

To The Future…

May the best day of your past be the worst day of your future.

To Drinking…

May you always have a clean shirt,

a clear conscience,

and enough coins in your pocket to buy a pint!
