THOUSANDS HAS been raised for the family of a much-loved Dublin shopkeeper who tragically died while chasing a thief on Easter Sunday.
Akram Hussein suffered a fatal heart attack while chasing a shoplifter this past weekend.
Akram was only in his 40s and left behind a 14-year-old son, his wife, mum, sister and brother, who all live in Mirpur back in his native Bangladesh.
A beloved part of the local Drumcondra community, news of his death sent shockwaves through the local community.
“Akram was the life and soul of Drumcondra,” a tribute on the Drumcondra Tidy Village Facebook page read. "Even if he was down, he would have a friendly word and a happy smile for you.”
“Such a gentle soul. He was the world’s best shopkeeper. May he RIP. Bless you my friend Akram.”
Eager to show their support and appreciation, several locals banded together to set up a fundraising page inviting donations to help send Akram home to his family in Bangladesh.
"Akram Hussein was a dear friend to all of Lower Drumcondra,” the donation page reads.
"This fundraiser's purpose is to support his family in Bangladesh following his tragic death.
"The name Akram comes from the Arabic word for generosity and nobility.
"Akram means 'most generous, most noble'. Never was a man more fittingly named.
"Ní fheicimidh a leithid aris. We will not see the likes of him again."

It comes as tributes continue to flood in for the popular shopkeeper.
A book of condolences set up at the Centra store where he worked features an array of brilliant messages recalling Akram as a “true gentleman” and “kind and thoughtful”.
“You always brightened our day and our family will deeply miss you. Rest in peace you wonderful soul,” one said.
Another said: “An absolute gentleman. Such a sad day in Drumcondra.”
