One of Dublin's oldest and best loved Irish pubs is branching out with new bar in London

ONE OF Dublin’s most enduring pubs is set to expand its operations into the UK with a brand-new bar in central London.

Gibney’s of Malahide has been a popular fixture in the Irish capital for over 80 years.

Run by Tony Gibney, it now looks set to expand its operations with a brand new ‘branch’ of the Irish pub set to open in London.

The new version of Gibney’s will open in the basement of Richard Corrigan’s Old Street restaurant Daffodil Mulligan.

It will commence trading on March 12 – just in time for St Patrick’s Day – offering a glut of distinctly Irish food and drink options.

Tony Gibney’s son, Cormac, will be taking charge of the new pub, with the promise of delivering a truly Irish experience to paying customers.

A total of eight different beers will be available on tap, including the pub’s own legendary Gibney’s Stout.

Allied to this, the bar will boast as many as 120 Irish whiskies, Irish liqueurs and cocktails such as the Fall Bloom (Dingle Vodka, Amaro Montenegro, St Germain & lemon) and Long Way Home (Jameson Black Barrel, Orange Bitters & Poacher’s Ginger Ale).

A bar snacks menu, designed by Corrigan, will offer drinkers the chance to indulge in Irish-tinged delights like Durrus cheese toastie with burnt onion & pickled onion, Mangalitza black pudding sando with apple & cucumber pickle and salt chilli chicken with chorizo mayo.

"We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing a taste of Gibney’s of Malahide to London in time for St Patrick’s Day,” Gibney said.

“My family have been in the Dublin licence trade for five generations so opening across the pond is a big move for us.

“Moving beneath Daffodil Mulligan which was named after the daughter of Biddy Mulligan - a legendary Dublin street seller - made perfect sense."

Gibney’s opens its doors to London drinkers next month.
