Espresso Martini festival coming to Cork next month

AN ESPRESSO MARTINI festival is on its way to Cork next month.

Three Fools Coffee and Franciscan Well Brewery have joined forces to bring this wondrous cocktail to us all on mass - in festival form.

What could be better?

Well, we'll tell you.

Tickets for the event are freeeeeee.

It'll take place on Friday November 22, and Saturday November 23 at the Franciscan Well Brewpub on 14 North Mall, Cork City.

The event page gives an insight into what to expect:

"Throughout the caffeine, spirit & stout focused weekend, festival goers will be able to take part in workshops & demos such as 'How to Make an Espresso Martini', Stout tastings & Coffee Brewing Demos

"Other drinks on the go will be Irish coffees, nitro coffees, hot chocolates and of course Pompeii pizza will be on hand to fight off any hunger pangs!"

The Espresso Martini rose to fame in the late 1980s after being concocted by London bartender Dick Bradsell in a Soho brasserie.

It's alleged that in 1983, a customer asked him to build a drink that would "wake her up, and f**k her up," and so the Espresso Martini was born.

A firm favourite among cocktail lovers, it's a simple infusion of three basic essentials in life; coffee, vodka and sugar.

Espresso Martini crema, garnished neatly with coffee beans and chocolate powder

Served chilled in a martini glass, with - if made and poured correctly - a layer of gorgeous-looking crema sitting on top, gives it the sleek Bond-esque look every cocktail enthusiast secretly strives for (whether you admit it or not).

A double measure of vodka, a measure of kahlua (coffee liquor), a shot of fresh espresso (better hot than cold) and topped up with a dash or two of sugar syrup, forget the Vodka-RedBull, this is the ultimate combination of caffeine and booze.
