Cork is officially home to Ireland’s best breakfast

WHEN IT comes to finding the perfect Irish breakfast, fans of bacon, eggs and all things black or white pudding should head to Cork.

That’s according to the Irish Independent’s new Reader Travel Awards 2020, which has crowned the Liberty Grill as the home of Ireland’s best breakfast.

The annual awards, based on the recommendations of the newspaper’s culinary-minded readership, is something approaching gospel on the Emerald Isle.

So when they pick out the Liberty Grill for its impressive variety of breakfast and brunch items, it’s something worth taking note of.

Located on Washington Street in Cork, the bistro-style eatery garnered a raft of positive reviews from Independent readers voting in the awards.

One claimed it had "Poached eggs to die for” with another praising its “always amazing brunch”.

Praised for its use of fresh local produce with ingredients sourced from the famous English Market located nearby, menu highlights include French toast with Caherbeg smoked bacon and a Rosscarbery black pudding served with sourdough, hollandaise and poached eggs.

There's also inspired creations like the bubble and squeak benedict - a combination of ham, potato and kale cakes, pan-fried and topped with East Ferry free range poached eggs and hollandaise sauce.

The full Irish breakfast is also present and correct, for the more traditional morning diners among us.

It all adds up to yet another reason to visit Cork over the next year to come.
