Best of Irish fare on offer in Manchester this weekend

THE BEST of Irish food and drink will be on offer in South Manchester this weekend alongside an Irish music concert boasting more than 40 traditional musicians, dancers and singers.

A Taste of Ireland takes place at the M19 bar in Levenshulme on Sunday, June 14 - helping to launch the annual Levenshulme Food and Drink Festival.

The concert, which starts at 7.30pm, features tributes to Riverdance, Lord of the Dance and Celtic Feet, with The Voice favourite Joe Keegan headlining the event.

The Celtica Irish Dance troupe and The fiddle-playing Langan Sisters are on the line up.

But food and drink is key to the wider festival – which takes place across Levenshulme from June 12-21 - and the best of Irish fare will be on offer in the A Taste of Achill Food Festival being staged at the Union Irish Bar in nearby Stockton Road on June 14.

Tony Hennigan, CEO of the Manchester Mayo Tourism and Business Group, which is organising the Irish events across Levenshulme, said “I was lucky enough to attend the Féile na Mara in Mayo last year as a guest of the fabulous Achill Head Hotel and Achill Tourism, it’s a fabulous festival and this year has been extended to run all through July, so that inspired our own events for the Levenshulme Food and Drink Festival this year.”

He added: “We are also using these events to promote our forthcoming Mayo Manchester Tradfest which takes place in Mayo from Friday 31 July until Wednesday 5 August in and around Ballina.”

Tickets for A Taste of Ireland are just £4 in advance from Fred's Ale House in Levenshulme or £5 on the door at M19.

The 2015 Levenshulme Food and Drink Festival runs from Friday June 12 until Sunday June 21 and features over 75 food, drink and cultural events in and around the Levenshulme village.
