Who is Ireland’s Eurovision 2019 entry Sarah McTernan and when is it on TV?

SARAH McTernan will represent Ireland during the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest, which takes place in Tel Aviv, Israel.

But who is Ireland's 2019 Eurovision hopeful? The singer-songwriter from Scariff, Co. Clare is no stranger to talent shows, with her breakthrough as a performer coming as a competitor in The Voice of Ireland in 2015, where she finished in third-place.

During her stint on the RTÉ One contest, the 25-year-old was mentored by S Club 7 star Rachel Stevens.

She’ll be representing Ireland in Israel with her song 22, a light song about reflecting on past love with a distinctive retro feel to it.

It isn’t the first time she’s tried to compete in Eurovision either. In 2018, McTernan applied unsuccessfully to represent San Marino (where non-nationals are allowed to perform) but failed to gain enough support.

When will Sarah McTernan be competing?

The competition’s final will take place on Saturday May 18. The first of two semi-finals will be held on Tuesday May 14 and the other on Thursday May 16.

Following the semis there will be a vote to determine which nations qualify for Saturday’s grand final.

Should McTernan get there, she’ll be just the second Irish entry in six years to qualify for the final - the other being last year’s entry Ryan O’Shaughnessy, who finished in 16th place with his song Together.

Where will Eurovision 2019 be held?

The 64th annual Eurovision Song Contest will be broadcast live from Tel Aviv, Israel.

Israel won last year's competition in Lisbon earning themselves the right to host this year's show.

Due to controversy surrounding Israel's political situation with Palestine, many around Europe, including some in Ireland, are asking for nations to boycott the event.

When is Eurovision 2019 on TV?

The 2019 Eurovision Song Contest will be broadcast on May 14, 16 & 18 on BBC One in the UK and RTÉ One in Ireland.
