What’s behind the recent spate of camel sightings across Ireland?

ON Tuesday Afternoon, those driving near Killorglin in Kerry were treated to an extra hump in the road courtesy of a wayward camel.

That's right, a camel.

One bemused motorist shared the scene with Radio Kerry, whose equally puzzled audience members speculated as to how exactly a creature a little more Kalahari than Kerry had rocked up in Killorglin.

Turns out the adventurous animal is part of the show over at the Puck Fair, which kicks off next week in Killorglin.

It’s still not clear, however, whether the camel’s detour was intentional on the part of Puck’s organisers.

If the Kerry camel's appearance wasn't already mystifying enough though, it's become clear that the sighting was not the first of its kind in Ireland.

First there was a sighting at an under 21 hurling session in Wexford

Then another in Limerick...

Then in June, a camel was spotted strolling around Achill Island, Mayo

We can only assume that the recent spate of camel sightings across Ireland is down to the circus moving around the country, rather than a sudden upsurge in global warming.

At least, we hope so.
