Watch: Hozier performs emotional tribute to victims of coronavirus in Ireland

HOZIER PAID tribute to the victims of coronavirus in Ireland with an emotional three-song set on the Late Late Show this week.

The Irish singer, who was on the show to promote the ISPCC Childline's emergency appeal, performed Take Me To Church, Shrike and a cover of The Parting Glass to an empty studio.

He was joined by host Miriam O'Callaghan, ISPCC's Caroline O'Sullivan, keyboard player Alex Ryan and the skeleton Late Late crew for what proved a powerful set nonetheless.

Taking to the stripped back stage, Hozier dedicated his version of The Parting Glass to anyone who has already lost someone in the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

He also took a moment to pay tribute to the first of Ireland’s healthcare workers to reportedly succumb to the virus.

Speaking at a briefing earlier, the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar had expressed condolences to the family and friends of the three people who passed away today, including one individual who was thought to be a healthcare worker.

Those three deaths came as part of a total of 2,121 cases across Ireland with a further 302 confirmed on Friday.

The ISPCC's Caroline O'Sullivan joined Hozier to speak out about the increase in the number of calls being made to Childline since the coronavirus outbreak.

According to O’Sullivan, many of these children are experiencing anxiety and worry over older or sick loved ones, while others are experiencing abuse and neglect in the home.

Hozier is one of several Irish musicians collaborating on a virtual festival raising money for the charity.

Dermot Kennedy, Gavin James, Kodaline, Danny O'Reilly, and Picture This are among those artists set to perform live at 2pm every way via Instagram with 2FM broadcasting each show live again at seven o'clock every evening.

As part of their efforts, these musicians are encouraging those who can afford it to donate €4 by texting ‘CHILDHOOD’ to 50300.
