Video: Hozier tells Gay Byrne where church should keep its nose out

HOZIER is known for his strong stance on the Catholic Church in Ireland – and he certainly did not hold back when speaking to Gay Byrne for an RTÉ programme.

The Wicklow-born Grammy nominee is Byrne’s latest guest on his The Meaning of Life series.

“I think these things drop through more generations than we would think,” he says, when Byrne asks whether younger generations give “a hoot” about the church.

Hozier, whose songs Take Me to Church and From Eden deal with his feelings on the church – with the former looking at the organisation’s hypocrisy.

“No surprise that I have strong opinions as to where the church should stick its nose out of and what authority it does not have when speaking with sexuality or speaking about the relationship of two people,” he says.

The episode is due to air on RTÉ One on Sunday, September 27 at 10.35pm.
