U2 teaming up with Martin Garrix to release official Euro 2020 theme song

U2 are teaming up with Ducth DJ Martin Garrix to record the official theme song for the upcoming Euro 2020 tournament.

The song, titled 'We Are The People We've Been Waiting' is set to be released on May 14, just over two weeks before the championships kick off in June.

According to The Sun, Bono and The Edge are currently in London working on the music video for the track alongside Garrix.

"Martin adores football so this opportunity was massive for him, which is why he aimed for the very top when looking for collaborators," an insider told NME.

"He has spent months and months working on this song to make it perfect and once Bono and The Edge were on board, it hit new heights.

"They have spoken quite a few times and are in London at the moment working on the video.

"They can't wait to get it out there for everyone to listen to really soon."

Garrix confirmed the collaboration with the Irish rock band via his Twitter page, sharing an an image of himself, Bono and The Edge.

Euro 2020 is set to begin next month after being postponed last summer due to the pandemic.

The tournament hasn't been too kind to Ireland. Not only did Stephen Kenny's men fail to qualify, but Dublin recently had its hosting duties stripped because the Irish government couldn't guarantee 25% capacity at each match.
