THE funeral of Tony Fenton, the Today FM broadcaster who died last Thursday after a long battle with cancer, included a performance of Ordinary Love from all four members of U2 who attended the radio presenter’s service.
On Monday the Dublin group joined many other figures from the world of music and broadcasting who gathered to pay their respects at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Donnybrook.
Among those present included Ian Dempsey, Dave Fanning and Mario Rosenstock.
Over a 35-year career, popular Fenton became one of Ireland’s most successful DJs.
Having left 2fm in 2003, the presenter returned to radio the following year when he joined Today FM and went on to present a number of afternoon music shows over the next decade.
The broadcaster was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2010.
OnMonday, Radio stations across Ireland paid tribute to the late DJ at the same time.
RTÉ 2fm and Today FM were among the stations who took part by playing I Say A Little Prayer by Aretha Franklin at 2.30pm as a final send-off for the DJ.
