Following a disappointing exit from last year’s semi-final, Galway camogie star Sarah Dervan is set to lead her team of fresh new talent to recreate Galway’s All-Ireland success of 2013.
The fearless leader has been a regular on the senior team since winning an intermediate All-Ireland with Galway in 2009 and, following the retirement of a number of long serving players, has stepped into the captain’s role with ease.
Tipped as one of the best centre-backs in the country and having earned an All Star for her efforts in Galway’s 2013 All-Ireland win at Croke Park, Sarah will lead her team to take on the mighty Wexford and inch one step closer to winning the coveted O’Duffy Cup.
Hot on Dervan’s heels is Wexford skipper, Shelley Kehoe.
Having gained a sense of perspective after being stationed on a Tour of Duty in the Lebanon with the Irish Defence Forces, Kehoe is primed to wear the armband this year and lead her team to a place in the finals.
With a new manager, Colm McGee, settling in and four key players struck with injury, Wexford had been somewhat written off for any sort of success.
The full squad, however, are back fighting fit and building momentum with a growing confidence for Saturdays' battle against Galway.
