The Chase introduces brand new chaser in today's episode, and he's Irish

A BRAND NEW chaser will be unveiled in today's episode of The Chase, and guess what ... he's Irish!

Joining the illustrious ranks of uber-smart quizzers is Darragh 'The Menace' Ennis.

The 40-year-old Dubliner, who now lives in Oxford, is actually a former scientist.

He'll join the likes of Mark 'The Beast' Labbett, Anne 'The Governess' Hegerty, Jenny 'The Vixen' Ryan, Shaun 'The Dark Destroyer' Wallace and Paul 'The Sinnerman' Sinha.

Ennis actually appeared on the show in 2017, as a contestant against The Sinnerman, where he performed exceptionally well.

"I'm so pleased to be the sixth Chaser," Ennis said.

"It's brilliant to be on such an amazing quiz team, and so much fun working with Bradley Walsh."

Host Walsh insists that The Menace is "very kind", in spite of his classically threatening nickname.

"He told me,'Relax, don't worry about anything. We'll have a bit of back and forth. You give me a hard time, I'll give you a hard time, but it's all just fun. Just go out and do your thing'," Walsh said of Ennis.

"I grew up in a household like that and I have a group of friends at home who are exactly like that. We give each other a terrible time, so it's great."

The Menace later spoke of how the other Chasers helped him ease into his new role, and have been very supportive ever since he joined the ruthless squad.

"They were all super encouraging afterwards when I spoke to them. They were really congratulatory [after my first episode]. They said very well done," Ennis said.

"If you have a bad show they are incredibly sympathetic and they help you. It's a really nice environment that we all work in.

"We all try to help each other out. So I think they should be really happy with that."

Fans of the show will be able to catch The Menace's debut today at 2pm on Virgin Media One.

For anyone interested, after his debut, Ennis will be interviewed on the Elaine Show at 3pm today (Friday, November 20) to discuss his first episode.
