A SNL skit designed to celebrate St. Patrick's Day has divided opinion

A FESTIVE SKETCH on Saturday Night Live has not had the desired effect on its Irish audience.

The sketch entitled 'Irish Dating Show' has split audiences on its comic ability.

The last time SNL tried to cover Irish culture was their ill-fated Aer Lingus sketch, which featured Saoirse Ronan.

The skit even caught the attention of Aer Lingus themselves, who dubbed it 'unwatchable'.

This time around, an Irish skit featured SNL favourites such as Bill Hader, Cecily Strong, Aidy Bryant and Kate McKinnon which meant the creme de la creme of the show's comics were used - but it was the execution of the sketch that possibly let them down.

Both 4 actors and the presenter had unusual accents which to an Irish ear, cannot be specifically placed, however, as they are American we'll have to let them off this time.

The sketch itself was based on fictional blind dating show 'Kiss Me, I'm Irish' but the insinuation that Irish people date their cousins was a pill hard to swallow for many Irish viewers.

The sketch can be watched below.

Many people took offence to the sketch, saying it accused Irish people of being incestuous.

Others laughed the sketch off, saying it was hilarious.
