DUBLIN-BORN actress Siobhán McCarthy is to reprise her role as Mrs Lovett in Tooting Arts Club’s acclaimed production of the Victorian horror Sweeney Todd.
While the original venue, Harrington’s Pie and Mash Shop in Tooting undergoes refurbishment, the show moves to a new home in a pop-up recreation of the original pie shop on London’s Shaftesbury Avenue this spring.
McCarthy will star as the lovelorn Mrs Lovett alongside Jeremy Secomb as Sweeney in Stephen Sondheim’s musical masterpiece.
McCarthy was Olivier nominated as the original Donna in Mamma Mia! and played The Nurse in Medea alongside Cork-born Fiona Shaw in London and on Broadway.
McCarthy’s other starring roles include parts in Evita, Chess and Hairspray. She played the regular role of Roisin Connor in Bad Girls on ITV, and her other TV credits include Law and Order and Holby City.
Sweeney Todd runs until May 16 at Harrington’s Pie and Mash Shop, Shaftesbury Avenue, London.
