Sinead O’Connor slams Prince as a ‘violent abuser of women’ and claims he assaulted her 30 years ago

SINEAD O’CONNOR has slammed as a “violent abuser of women” in her new book.

The Irish singer’s upcoming memoir, Rememberings, is set to detail the night O’Connor was “terrorized” by the late musician at his Hollywood mansion.

The incident, which took place in the 1990s, is poured over in the new book, which has been previewed by the New York Times ahead of the book’s release.

According to O’Connor, she was first invited to Prince’s home after scoring a massive worldwide smash hit with her cover of his song Nothing Compares 2 U.

However, according to the preview, upon meeting things turned almost immediately sour between the pair.

The newspaper states: "She writes that Prince summoned her to his macabre Hollywood mansion, chastised her for swearing in interviews, harangued his butler to serve her soup though she repeatedly refused it, and sweetly suggested a pillow fight, only to thump her with something hard he'd slipped into his pillowcase.

"When she escaped on foot in the middle of the night, she writes, he stalked her with his car, leapt out and chased her around the highway."

O’Connor is quoted as writing: "You've got to be crazy to be a musician. But there's a difference between being crazy and being a violent abuser of women."

The revelations come four years after Prince died following an accidental opioid overdose at his Paisley Park home in Minnesota in April 2016.

It’s not the first time O’Connor has made these claims.

Back in 2019, during an appearance on Good Morning Britain she was asked whether she had ever met the legendary musicia

O’Connor replied: "We did meet once but we didn't get on very well, we tried to beat each other up.

"Well, it was more he tried to beat me up and I was defending myself.

"It's not a joke, it's not a joke at all, it was a very frightening experience actually."

"In Los Angeles, he summoned me to his house one night and I foolishly went along not knowing where I was."

According to O’Connor, Prince was "uncomfortable" with the fact she wasn’t his "protégé" and told her not to "swear any more in interviews," allegedly adding "Irish people swear all the time".

She added: "I told him where to go and then he went for me and then he went upstairs and got a pillow with something hard in it.

"I ran out of his house and was hiding behind a tree, he was going this way in his car, we meet on a highway in Malibu at 5 o'clock in the morning we're running around his car, I'm spitting on him and he's trying to punch me."

She also told the Belfast Telegraph: "I thought Prince would fall in love with me and it would all be lovely, but he was the most frightening human being I ever met in my life, even more frightening than my mother.”
