SINEAD O’CONNOR has sensationally claimed Prince once attacked her and made an insulting remark about Irish people in an allegedly drug-fuelled confrontation.
The Irish singer is best known for her hit single Nothing Compares 2 U, which was originally written by Prince, who died from an accidental drug overdose three years ago.
However, according to comments made by O’Connor in an appearance on Good Morning Britain, the pair didn’t get on so well when it came time to meet.
Speaking to hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid after performing the hit track on the ITV breakfast show, O’Connor was asked whether she ever met Prince and held nothing back in her response.
She said: "We met once but we didn't get on very well, we tried to beat each other up. We didn't get on too well."
Visibly shocked by her comments, Morgan asked: "You tried to beat each other up?"
O’Connor replied: "Well it was more that he was trying to bet me up and I was defending myself."
Reid interjected: "Hang on, that doesn't sound like a joke, it sounds serious."
The Irish singer concurred: "Oh no it's not a joke at all, it was a very frightening experience actually.
"In Los Angeles, he summoned me to his house one night and I foolishly went along not knowing where I was."
According to O’Connor, Prince was "uncomfortable" with the fact she wasn’t his "protégé" and told her not to "swear any more in interviews," allegedly adding "Irish people swear all the time".
She added: "I told him where to go and then he went for me and then he went upstairs and got a pillow with something hard in it.
"I ran out of his house and was hiding behind a tree, he was going this way in his car, we meet on a highway in Malibu at 5 o'clock in the morning we're running around his car, I'm spitting on him and he's trying to punch me."
According to O’Connor, she ran away before seeking help and solace from a neighbour.
"He was into some pretty dark drugs,” she added.
"It was down to drugs at the end of the day, he was doing some pretty dark drugs."
The remarks are not the first time O’Connor has spoke candidly about her negative experience in meeting Prince.
Earlier this year, she told the Belfast Telegraph: "I thought Prince would fall in love with me and it would all be lovely, but he was the most frightening human being I ever met in my life, even more frightening than my mother.”
