Shortlisted Geldof portrait to go on show across Britain

A POIGNANT study of Bob Geldof by Nathalie Beauvillain Scott, was one of 55 portraits shortlisted for the BP Portrait Award.

The 44-year-old artist, who studied painting at the prestigious Atelier de Sèvres in Paris, first met Geldof at a music festival where the Boomtown Rats were playing

About the portrait F*** Mondays she says: “Bob is portrayed as the person rather than as a rock star. The emptiness next to him represents the losses he has experienced, loss being an inevitable part of life.”

The piece was shortlisted from 2,748 entries from 92 countries in the world's most prestigious portrait competition.

The winner - Israeli painter Matan Ben-Cnaan, for his piece Annabelle and Guy - was announced on June 16.

But the 55 portraits which made up the shortlist will remain on view at the National Portrait Gallery in London until September 20, where admission to the exhibition is free.

The show will then open at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh from October 10, 2015 -February 28, 2016 before moving to the Ulster Museum in Belfast from March 11-June, 12 2016.
