Shannen Doherty leads the emotional tributes to Beverly Hills, 90210 star Luke Perry

IRISH AMERICAN actress Shannen Doherty has paid tribute to Luke Perry following the actor’s sad passing at the age of 52.

Perry was initially hospitalised after suffering a massive stroke at his home in Sherman Oaks in Los Angeles last Wednesday, February 27th. He died from complications on March 4th,.

Perry leaves behind a legacy that includes a starring role in the Buffy The Vampire Slayer movie, a memorable turn as a disgraced preacher Reverend Jeremiah Cloutier in the HBO prison drama Oz and most famously of all the role Dylan McKay on Beverly Hills, 90210.

Doherty starred alongside Perry on Beverley Hills, 90210 back in the 1990s with the pair spending four years together on the series.

More recently, the pair had reconnected followed Doherty’s cancer diagnosis in 2015 with the actress expressing her sadness at his sudden passing, adding that she would “miss him every day”.

“There is a special kind of love one has for each other when you are experiencing the journey we did on 90210 and of course life in general,” Doherty told People magazine.

“Luke and I were working on show ideas for us. We wanted to work with each other again and create something special and meaningful for our fans at this stage in our lives.

“I will miss him everyday. Every minute. Every second.”

“Luke was a smart, quiet, humble and complex man with a heart of gold and never-ending well of integrity and love. Luke reached out to me during my cancer journey and we picked right back up, albeit older and wiser, but that connection remained intact.”

Perry was currently starring on the hit Netflix series Riverdale. Production on the series has been shut down in the wake of the news.

Lili Reinhart who plays Betty Cooper on the series, paid tribute to Perry on Twitter.

“I’m finding it hard to grasp that he will no longer be around to give long hugs and share his wisdom and kindness with all of us. I’m thinking of his family. His children. I pray for them to heal and find peace in this devastating loss,” she wrote. “I just can’t believe it.”

Perry’s final role will be in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, set in Hollywood during the time of the Manson family murders.

And his co-star Leonardo Di Caprio also offered a glowing tribute to Perry.

“Luke Perry was a kindhearted and incredibly talented artist,” he wrote on Twitter.

“It was an honor to be able to work with him. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his loved ones.”

Molly Ringwald and Patricia Arquette were among the other big names to pay tribute to Perry, who died surrounded by friends and loved ones at his home.
