SECRET GIG: Macy Gray wows fans with intimate performance in Cork

SINGING royalty Macy Gray delighted fans in Ireland this week by performing a secret gig in Cork city.

The US-based superstar, who shot to fame in 1999 with the release of her hit single I Try, gave a surprise performance at Coughlan’s Bar on Wednesday, before taking to the stage last night to open the Guinness Cork Jazz festival.

The unexpected, jazz-inspired evening in Coughlans earlier this week gave those lucky enough to be there a real taste of what is in store for the weekend ahead.

Along with her own California Jet Club band, the Grammy award winner gave a special performance in the pub, singing tracks from her new album The Reset as well as a host of older favourites.

That taster came ahead of her performace last night, which was sold out well before the Ohio-born singer arrived in Ireland this week.

The award-winning singer, who performed at the Cork Opera House, is one of a host of artists who are lined up to perform at the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival over the course of this weekend.

“This year's festival promises to be the biggest and best yet, with renowned jazz artists descending upon Cork for a weekend of unforgettable performances,” the organisers state.

The 2023 programme, which runs until October 30, features more than 100 ticketed shows and 500 musicians from over 40 countries.

Over the course of the weekend the likes of Corrine Bailey Rae, Giles Patterson, Adam Ben Erza and Tony Hadley are among those due to perform.
