SEASON THREE of the hit Netflix show Bridgerton will focus on Nicola Coughlan's character Penelope, the Galway actor has confirmed.
At the conclusion of Netflix's FYSEE Space's opening night ATAS panel in Los Angeles, Coughlan was asked what viewers can expect to see from her character in season three of the show.
Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington and alter ego Lady Whistledown, revealed that the next instalment will be about Penelope and her love interest Colin Bridgerton.
The story will follow the two as their friendship potentially blossoms into something more all while balancing her double life as Lady Whistledown.
“Like Lady Whistledown, I have been keeping a secret for quite some time and I can confirm to you all that season 3 is Colin and Penelope’s love story,” Coughlan said. “I have kept that secret since two weeks into season 2. This is the first time I am saying it here.”
Bridgerton is based on the book series by Julia Quinn, with Penelope and Colin's love story being the topic of the fourth book Romancing Mister Bridgerton.
The first two seasons of the Netflix TV series followed the first two novels in their original order, focusing on Daphne Bridgerton and Anthony Bridgerton, respectively, and their quests for love.
The show's creators have previously taken creative liberties by revealing that Penelope is Lady Whistledown at the end of season one, which does not occur until book four in the series.
Deadline also revealed this week that the actor behind Francesca Bridgerton, Ruby Stokes, has left the show and has been replaced by actress Hannah Dodd.
