Search is on to find the finest Irishman in Britain!

Ladies! The search is on to find the finest Irishman in Britain.

A recent survey by a US-based dating website labelled Irishmen as the ugliest in the world. So we're on a mission to prove them wrong when it comes to the Irish and their looks.

The survey's results has even drawn the wrath of our columnist Joseph O'Connor.

The respected author, writing in his column last week, said: "How unfair can you get? Is there any justice at all? Wouldn't you think our poor country has enough on its mind at the moment without being confronted by such a gross libel?

"They downgrade our credit rating, attract away our totally innocent tax exiles to live lives of abject misery in Florida, and NOW accuse of being just Plain Pats."

O'Connor gave examples like Hollywood A-listers such as Pierce Brosnan, Gabriel Byrne, Daniel Day-Lewis and Colin Farrell as evidence of this miscarriage of justice.

Our sporting rugby heroes, like Brian O'Driscoll, Rob Kearney and Ronan O'Gara deserve mention.

And it's obvious that those who took part in the survey have never been to Croke Park on All-Ireland Hurling or Football final day. Most of the girls I know only go to GAA matches to spot the talent!

So the brouhaha over whether our men have the look of the Irish has prompted us to search the country from Land's End to John O'Groats to find the most attractive Irishman in Britain. And we are calling on you for help.

The aforementioned celebrities are often quoted when it comes to good looking Irishmen.

But what we want to fin is a son, father, nephew, uncle, brother or grandson that you think could give Clooney and Brosnan a run for their money in the looks department.

It could even be the gregarious bar man that fills your drinks down your local pub every weekend. Or the construction worker, with a hod of bricks on his shoulder, that catches your eye each morning as you stroll to work.

It is up to you to dispel the myth that Irish men are the ugliest in the world.
