Losing Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model is only a 'minor setback' says Irish beauty

LOSING out on winning Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model is only a 'minor setback', says Irish model and show finalist Sarah Kennedy.

The Donegal girl narrowly missed out on winning the television beauty contest last Thursday after making it to the final of the series.

In the wake of her loss to 23-year-old Lauren Lambert, Kennedy said:  “I was gutted and my heart sank, but it was just for that moment. It's just a minor setback. I'm on to bigger things now.".

Surrey-born Lambert was awarded the title of BINMT, and received a contract with Models 1 and the cover and a photo feature with Company magazine.

Kennedy also lost the chance to go on a shopping spree in New York and to feature in national campaigns with beauty and hair-care brands Revlon and TRESemmé.

Finishing as runner-up was nevertheless a proud moment for Kennedy.

She said: "Probably one of the best and most surreal feelings I've ever had in my life. It's very hard to explain it. It was something I never thought was possible. It's very special."

The Irish student had a nervy start on the show, but soon became the series’ underdog beating off 11 other hopefuls to reach the final three.

"I just think my focus and determination got me through and the judges gave me a lot of great advice, which I took on board. I was very motivated and wanted it so much.

“I have learned throughout my life and the competition to use the negative as your motivation to do better. I think me being under pressure is a good thing," she added.

Kennedy may not have been crowned winner of the competition but she believes that reaching the final three is only just the beginning of her modelling career.

“I love every single minute of modelling. It's my passion and my dream and thanks to Top Model, I'm closer to achieving it. I'm moving to London with my boyfriend next week. I don't want to regret not going for it."
