SAOIRSE Ronan has revealed that she is the envy of her friends back in Ireland after she told them she would be working alongside Hollywood actor Ryan Gosling.
The Irish Oscar-nominee was chosen by The Notebook star to join the cast of Lost River, on his directorial debut, which is expected to be one of the highlights of this week’s Cannes Film Festival.
Ronan recalled her friend’s reaction when she told her she would be starring in Gosling’s film: “I told one of my best friends as she told me if I ever worked with Robert Pattinson or Ryan Gosling, she needed to come with me.
“So I told her, ‘Guess what, I’m working with Ryan Gosling.’ And she grabbed my wrist really tightly and was like, I’m going to kill you.’ So she was really happy for me.”
The Lovely Bones actress described the Hollywood heartthrob, who has exchanged acting for directing as a “goofball” who was very different to his serious persona.
“He’s really, really cool. He takes his job seriously and he takes what we were doing seriously but he’s the best guy to be around. He’s so much fun. I love him,” she said.
Ronan will walk the red carpet next Tuesday in Cannes alongside her co-stars Christina Hendricks, Eva Mendes, Ben Mendelsohn and Matt Smith.
“She’s really excited about going over, it’s always a glamorous event so she’s already deciding what to wear for the red carpet,” a source said.
Lost River is a fantasy thriller where Ronan plays girl-next-door Rat who discovers a secret road that leads to a mysterious underwater town with lead character Billy.
Ronan has also recently finished filming her new film Brooklyn, with fellow Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson (Frank, Calvary).
Film director Jim Sheridan will also be attending Cannes Film Festival along with Liam Cunningham, who will be promoting his film Let Us Prey.
