BOYZONE star Ronan Keating is set to make his theatrical stage debut in Once: The musical, taking on the lead role of the unnamed ‘guy’.
Keating revealed that producer Barbara Broccoli, the woman behind the James Bond films, personally called and asked him to take on the role.
Describing the West End move as “daunting”, Keating added said: “It’s scary. I never saw myself going into the West End... This is, like, a play with music, and for me it’s daunting.
Once tells the story of an Irish busker and a Czech immigrant bonding over a love of music. The musical was based on the 2007 film of the same name which won an Oscar for best song with Falling Slowly.
It successfully transferred to the stage in New York in 2012, where it won eight Tony awards. As well as continuing on Broadway, it is also currently running at the Phoenix theatre in London's West End, where Keating will perform, until 2015.
