INTERNATIONALLY renowned flautist Sir James Galway will perform at the Ireland Fund of Great Britain London City Lunch.
The lunch, which has made a welcome return to the Irish in Britain business calendar, takes place this Friday, May 13 at the prestigious One Whitehall Place.
Speaking ahead of the gathering, Belfast-born Sir James said he was looking forward to supporting the charity's event.
The Irishman is a supporter of the Music Generation project - a €7million national music education programme in Ireland set up in 2009 by The Ireland Funds and U2, and now backed by the Irish Government to give young people access to music tuition.
“We’re helping to promote music in Ireland, trying to get flutes into the hands of children and musical instruments in to the hands of people who can’t really afford them,” Sir James said. “It’s a well-known fact that any kid that studies music does better in other academic fields.”
Over 200 people are expected to gather for the London City Lunch, which has been organised by a committee including Irish Post publisher Elgin Loane, Confederation of British Industry President Paul Drechsler CBE, Powerscourt Chief Executive Rory Godson and Irish Ambassador to Britain Daniel Mulhall.
Previous guests of honour have included former Attorney General of Ireland Peter Sutherland KCMG; international businessman and former Unilever and Reuters Chairman Niall Fitzgerald KBE and Ryanair Chief Executive Michael O’Leary.
The Ireland Funds is a global organisation dedicated to freeing the Irish Diaspora from conflict, suffering and marginalisation.
It has raised over $500million for worthy causes in Ireland and Irish causes around the world supporting programs of peace and reconciliation, arts and culture, education and community development.
