Colin Farrell Batman movie delayed after star tests positive for Covid-19

PRODUCTION ON the new Batman film has been halted as the star has been confirmed to have contracted coronavirus.

Robert Pattinson, known for his roles in The Lighthouse and Twilight, is set to star as Bruce Wayne in the upcoming movie The Batman alongside Irish actor Collin Farrell, who plays the Penguin.

Production on the eagerly anticipated movie, which is being filmed in England, was already pushed back in March following the beginning of the coronavirus crisis.

Filming has now been temporarily suspended once more-- just days after it restarted-- as the star contracted the respiratory virus.

In a statement to AFP, a spokesperson for Warner Bros. confirmed:

"A member of The Batman production has tested positive for Covid-19, and is isolating in accordance with established protocols.

"Filming is temporarily paused."

While the company did not name the cast member who had contracted the virus, US entertainment outlet Vanity Fair later revealed that it had confirmed through "highly placed sources" that Pattinson had fallen ill with the virus.

Despite just 25% of the film having been shot so far, fans were given a taste of what to expect with a short trailer which was released two weeks ago as part of Warner Bros' DC FanDome virtual event.

The trailer included a first glimpse of Irish actor Colin Farrell as The Penguin, aka Osward Cobblepot-- and his transformation into the ominous character left him unrecognisable even to the most avid fans.

So while The Batman is going to take that much longer to hit our screens, for now you can whet your appetite by checking out the trailer below.
