Niall Horan hits out at the tabloid media for their role in Caroline Flack’s death

NIALL HORAN has hit out at the tabloid press following the sudden death of TV presenter Caroline Flack.

A lawyer for the Flack family confirmed that the 40-year-old took her own life at her flat in East London on Saturday, February 15.

Reacting to the news, the former One Direction star tweeted: “Tabloids will never hold themselves accountable in any shape or form for any death. I feel very sad for those who write these terrible articles simply for clickbait and a wage at the end of the year.”

“That’s our actual friend, a person. Because she is talented and famous she automatically gets treated differently by society and in turn the tabloids and social media. The outcome is society’s fault.”

Horan met Flack while performing as part of One Direction on The X Factor, with Flack serving as the main presenter on the ITV2 spin-off series The Xtra Factor.

They remained firm friends in the years that followed.

Her death came after a period of intense media scrutiny following her arrest by police in December last year on charges of assault.

Flack was alleged to have hit her boyfriend Lewis Burton over the head with a lamp while he slept.

Burton did not support the prosecution.

She was due in court on March 4.

In the weeks following the incident, Flack became the target for a string of tabloid stories touching on her private life and the upcoming court case.

Her tragic suicide has sparked fresh calls for the UK press to face more scrutiny when it comes to its reporting, with the hashtag #CarolinesLaw trending on Twitter in the UK.
