New Irish TV show reaches for the stars

A BRAND new competition aiming to discover the next big music phenomenon has been launched by Irish TV.

Find a Star will scour Britain and Ireland for the best solo artists across all genres of music, who will be in the running to win €1,000.

The winner will also receive a one-year working contract with Enjoy Travel and an appearance on Irish TV’s variety of music shows.

Budding solo singers and songwriters over the age of 18 are required to enter the competition by submitting a YouTube video online on the Irish TV website.

The deadline for entries is June 5, with the best videos going through to the televised shows, which will be filmed and broadcast throughout summer.

Eight hopefuls will perform per show, with the judges selecting the best two to face a public vote, the winner of which will then go through to the finals.

The runner-up from each show will be entered into a wildcard round, with the public voting again to save one who will go on to compete in the grand finals.

Three judges will feature in each show, including a musical guest, and Country artists Robert Mizzell, Johnny Brady, Lisa Stanley and Phil Mack have been confirmed on the panel.

Irish TV Senior Executive Mark Dempsey said at the launch: “There is so much hidden talent out there and we want to give people the platform to showcase that.”

Venues across Ireland and Britain will host the televised shows, including: The Abbey House Hotel and Gardens in Cumbria, Loughrea Hotel and Spa in Co. Galway and The Country Ballroom in Tulsk Co. Roscommon.

Find a Star will be broadcast on the Irish TV Channel on Sky 191.

It can be viewed on Freesat 400 and online on the Irish TV website.
