Mrs Brown's Boys may be getting a big screen sequel

EVERYONE’S favourite Irish mammy is set to make a return to the silver screen, as Mrs Brown's Boys D’Movie could be getting a sequel.

The original film, starring Brendan O’Carroll as the matriarch of a Dublin family, was released last year.

It quickly became a hit – and is the most successful Irish film in over 20 years, with earnings of €30.8m (£22m) notched up in box office receipts.

Now, on the back of this success, it has been reported that Universal Studios has expressed an interest in producing a sequel.

Brendan O’Carroll’s Mrs Brown character has been on the go since the early 1990s, when she first made an appearance on RTÉ radio.

Since then, the character has become a much-loved film, stage and television icon, with the BBC-produced series Mrs Brown's Boys proving to be a massive ratings hit in Britain, Ireland and further afield.

Though the Mrs Brown’s Boys movie sequel has yet to be confirmed, it is expected that production will begin next year.

Mr O’Carroll is currently touring Britain in the stage version of Mrs Brown's Boys and will play a string of dates in London’s O2 Arena next month.
