Somehow Melissa McCarthy smuggled 30 sandwiches into the Golden Globes

MELISSA MCCARTHY came to the rescue of hungry celebs far and wide at the Golden Globes after smuggling 30 ham and cheese sandwiches into the event.

Raised on a farm as part of a large Catholic family with roots in County Cork, McCarthy’s Irish ancestry evidently came to the fore with this fun act of generosity for her fellow stars.

Dinner at the Golden Globes is usually served while many celebrities are still on the red carpet, meaning most miss out on a square meal at the awards.

McCarthy was ready this time though, arriving at the show with 30 pre-packed sandwiches that were handed out to any hungry stars seated near the Can You Ever Forgive Me? star.

No expense was spared on the sandwiches which, according to Variety, came from Joan’s on Third, where a “fromager d’affinois and apricot glazed ham” sandwich costs 7.95 US dollars (£6.24).

“I’ve been handing them out to everyone,” McCarthy explained to the magazine. “Next year, I’m bringing hot dogs.”

Jessica Chastain was among those to express her thanks to the Bridesmaids actress: “It’s a good idea because by the time you get into the ballroom dinner has already been served, and you’re always so hungry.”

Her efforts also made it into one of the night’s acceptance speeches with actress Olivia Colman including a mention of the charitable act when picking up an award for her work on The Favourite.

Taking to the stage, Colman blurted out: “Thank you for the sandwiches!” much to the confusion of those watching along at home.

It remains unclear how exactly McCarthy smuggled the sandwiches into the event.
