Meet five of Ireland's most hotly tipped new young artists

AN online art gallery has launched five hot new Irish artistic talents onto the scene.

Irish art company, Artfetch.com, who pride themselves on cherry picking “the freshest up and coming talent in the visual arts” are championing Lisa O’Donnell, Naomi Vona, Niamh Lawlor, Brendan Flaherty and Orla Phelan as the latest crop of ones to watch.

The artists come from diverse backgrounds – Manchester-born Brendan Flaherty is influenced by Francis Bacon; Italian born, Irish-raised Naomi Vona makes collage pieces that throwback to her childhood; Niamh Lawler, raised in Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow reinterprets rural environments in her own distant way and Orla Phelan, from Newbridge brings us “right back to the artist’s studio”.

Born in Galway, Lisa O’Donnell is the only artist who works and lives in London. O’Donnell deals with “palettes and themes from a familiarly ’80s Ireland to the distinctly Irish enclave of Kilburn in North London”.

All five artists are recent graduates from art colleges in Ireland and abroad, including the National College for Art & Design, Dublin, Dublin Institute of Technology, Galway Mayo Institute of Technology, Central St Martins in London, and the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan.

Speaking about the selection co-founder Katie Tsouros said: “As an Irish founded company it’s always exciting to help launch some of the best homegrown talent, and these artists are no exception.”
