Mary Lou McDonald won herself a lot of fans talking about the future of Irish politics on the Late Late

THE NEW leader of Sinn Féin certainly struck a chord with Irish viewers at home on Friday night.

The newly elected head of the Republican party appeared on the Late Late with Ryan Tubridy to clear up any rumours about her first speech at the Sinn Féin Ard Fheis.

Many questioned McDonald's use of "tiocfaidh ár lá" in her first presidential speech considering its connotations to the extremist Irish Republican movement.

She also spoke of her relationship with the current Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, considering his recent remarks deeming her 'cranky'.

McDonald also commented on the current stalemate in Stormont, saying despite knockbacks she feels confident for the future.

Viewers at home expressed their admiration for the new Sinn Féin leader, saying she came across very well on screen.
