London artist launches campaign to fund new Celtic Ireland comic

LONDON based artist Daniel de Sosa is bringing Celtic Ireland’s myths and legends to life in his new comic Oi! Tales of Bardic Fury.

Through the stunningly illustrated pages of Oi! De Sosa tells the whimsical story of his protagonist Bryan the Bard in Iron Age Ireland.

After graduating from the Great Academy in Tara, Bryan is sent off on a year’s work placement in a small northern town that has never heard music before.

The comic follows Bryan’s adventures as he deals with hippy druids, sassy hurling players and heckling crowds in the rural town.

Following strong sales of issues one and two of Oi!  at comic conventions around the UK, the California-born writer and artist has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund its completion.

So far Daniel has managed to raise £1073 of the £2900 he needs to finish the comic and get it printed and distributed around the UK.

De Sosa’s inspiration came from  Celtic mythology, Irish folk music and more current Irish bands such as The Pogues  and The Dubliners.

“My whole life I’ve loved history and on top of that since I was ten I’ve loved Irish traditional music, I’m not Irish at all but I love the music and culture”, he told The Irish Post.

He began drawing Oi! Tales of Bardic Fury two years ago with most of the pages taking between eight and fifteen hours to complete.

The artist is hopeful that epic Irish tale will continue long into the future. “I researched a lot about Ireland and I would love to do more developing the old Irish poems and mythology” he said.
