Leo Varadkar caught quoting 'Mean Girls' during address to the Irish nation

LEO VARADKAR has been caught quoting the Lindsay Lohan teen comedy classic Mean Girls during his latest speech to the nation.

Speaking during an address updating Ireland on plans to lift further restrictions, the Taoiseach remarked:

Some have asked whether there’s a limit to what we can achieve. My answer is that limit does not exist.”

The line is famously said by Lohan’s character, Cady Heron, during the film’s climactic statewide math contest.

Fans of the film were quick to notice Varadkar’s very deliberate use of the line.

It’s not the first time the outgoing Taoiseach has quoted a famous film during speechs made during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Possibly part of some concerted effort to raise spirits across Ireland, Varadkar has previously quoted both The Terminator and Lord of the Rings.

He’s not just referenced films either, with Seámus Heaney and Dermot Kennedy both quoted.

The decision to quote Mean Girls this time out may have been motivated by Lord of the Rings actor Sean Astin who previously bet Varadkar “50 quid” on RTÉ 2FM that “couldn’t fit Mean Girls” into the next speech.

Astin made the bet after Varadkar quoted his character in Lord of the Rings, Samwise Gamgee, when he told the public:

"So, this afternoon let me end with words of hope, 'In the end, it's only a passing thing this shadow, even darkness must pass. A new day will come, and when the sun shines, it'll shine out the clearer."

"Thanks to your hard work, your choices, and your perseverance, that new day is approaching."

Looks like its time for Mr. Astin to pay up.
