IRISH comedy duo Hunt the Vigan have released a comedy short to try change attitudes to mental health.
The sketch sends up the difference in perspective between physical injuries and those of a more invisible nature.
In the video, a hapless football player injures his arm only to ignore the resulting damage until gangrene wrecks the limb.
The film, which is both funny and grim in parts, then quips: “You wouldn’t ignore this. Don’t ignore your mental health.”
It’s Grand was created by Hunt the Vigan in partnership with the Donegal mental health charity Connect Mental Health.
The pairing consists of Donegal-raised comic James Gavigan and LA native Erin Hunter, both in their 30s.
Explaining the sketch’s comedic take on mental health, James said: “The majority of mental health support content is very serious and at times very heavy which has its place, but we wanted to do something different.
“I wildly suggested we do comedy to really grab people and engage those who wouldn’t normally watch a serious mental health video on their social media timelines.”
